251-Channel Configurable Microphone Array
|
Microphone arrays are used to locate and estimate the strength of acoustic sources. This can be difficult for complex and highly directional flow generated sources. We have used microphone arrays in the Stability Wind Tunnel to measure many aerodynamic sources including airfoils, fans, and surface discontinuities (roughness, steps, ...). We have an interest in improving our measurement techniques to investigate low frequency sound which is an area of interest in wind energy. As part of an ongoing turbulence ingestion noise project, we are trying to improve methods of locating acoustic sources on a fan produced by inhomogeneous turbulence interaction. We are also investigating inverse methods of source identification and characterization. Additionally, we are studying methods of system and sensor evaluation to improve the efficiency of wind tunnel and field measurements involving many sensors and sensor types.
